The second Indo-Bhutan Friendship mela is being held at Subankhata in Baska district in Assam. Organised by Bodoland Territorial Council, week- long mela will conclude on Tuesday.
It is an initiative to boost -up the bilateral relation of both the countries.
Last year, the two neighbouring countries had decided to organize it on regular basis.
Government officials of both the countries took part in the opening ceremony.
Exhibition, ethnic foods and cultural shows are being organised as a part of the friendship mela.Around 150 stalls have been set-up representing various states.Stalls from Bhutan have also been put up at Subankhata.
The people on either side of the Indo-Bhutan border have been on close terms since ages and it is expected that mela would further strengthen the ties among the citizens of the two neighbouring countries.
It may be recalled that people from Samdrup Jongkhar and other areas, traded their farm products such as vegetables, dry chillies and oranges in Assam.
Now people from India and Bhutan are expecting that with the improved relation, border trade between both the countries would further increased.
