• The National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancers, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS), will be implemented in all districts in the country during the 12th Five Year Plan.
  • This was stated by the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Sudip Bandyopadhyay, while inaugurating the scientific session of the 56th National Conference of Indian Public Health Association in Kochi today. The programme is currently being implemented in 100 selected districts in 21 states.
  • He noted that in addition to endemic diseases like tuberculosis and leprosy, new emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases in the country have resulted in high morbidity, mortality and adverse socio-economic impact.
  • He also expressed concern over the increasing usage of tobacco products among women. Mr Bandyopadhyay observed that there is a need to create awareness among public about environment cleanliness, personal hygiene and the importance of balanced diet to prevent communicable diseases.
