• In Myanmar, the Pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi has registered to contest in the by-polls for a parliamentary seat in Kawhmu, Southwest of Rangoon. Ms. Suu Kyi was released from house arrest in November 2010, days after Myanmar's first elections in 20 years. 
  • The by-election on first April will fill 48 parliamentary seats. The seats were left vacant when cabinet members assumed their ministerial posts. The Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy plans to contest more than 40 seats in the bye polls.
