• The Government has said that the Empowered Group of Ministers, EGoM, will have a final call on the gas shortage issue. 
  • The The Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Jaipal Reddy said that the government is aware of the shortage of gas issue and would receive suggestions from the independent producers. Mr. Reddy said that the options will be explored by the EGoM which will be meeting soon. He clarified that the EGoM will decide on allocation of gases and not its distribution.
  • Earlier, inaugurating the Oil Conservation fortnight, the Petroleum Minister stressed the need for conserving fossil fuel. He said that as the country is growing, so is its energy demand which is necessary for economic growth. 
  • He said, that about 70 per cent of oil needed by the country is imported. He asserted that the fuel should be used economically in view of the depleting resources.
