Andhra Pradesh has become the first state in the country to achieve cent percent issuance of Election Photo Identity Cards, EPICs.
This has been achieved with the distribution of over 33 lakh EPIC cards to the voters today coinciding with the second National Voters’ Day today. Several awareness programmes have been held across the state on the occasion.
Speaking at the main function held in Hyderabad, State Governor E S L Narasimhan has asked the Election Commission of India to consider holding all by-elections during a fixed month of every year so that the development process will not be hampered due to the election code of conduct.
He also asked political parties to cooperate for a propaganda free by-election on a pilot basis to save huge amounts of money now being spent on election campaigning.
The Governor administered the pledge to the newly enrolled voters that they will vote during every election.
