India set to produce record wheat output in 2012: Pawar

  • India is set to produce a record 88.31 million tonnes of wheat in 2012, Farm Minister Sharad Pawar said on Feb 17th, with recent cold waves helping the growth of the crop.
  • Early this month, the farm ministry in its second foodgrain production estimate projected a similar output for the main winter season crop.
  • India, the world's second biggest producer of wheat, produced 86.87 tonnes in 2011.
