• A Chinese delegation led by Vice Chairman of China National Tourism Administration Wang Zhifa, called on Union Tourism Minister Subodh Kant Sahai. They discussed ways to step up tourism between the two countries.
  • Speaking on the occasion Sahai said, efforts are on by the two friendly neighbours for increased cooperation to boost people-to-people exchange between India and China. He said, improving the tourism prospects of the Buddhist circuit is also being explored. Sahai told the Chinese delegation that India needs investments in the hotel and hospitality sector and 22 lakh hotel rooms are required in the country. He said that hundred per cent FDI is permitted in the hotel sector.
  • The Chinese delegation also included Ambassador of China to India Zhang Yan and Director of China National Tourist Office in New Delhi Liu Shijun.
  • Sahai also said that he met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday and sought budget allocation of 50 thousand crore rupees for his ministry. This, he said, will help to increase the arrival of tourists by another five million in the country.
