• Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh has said that the Centre has decided to bring all rural development schemes under CAG Audit to ensure greater transparency and accountability.
  • Inaugurating the All India Editors’ Conference on Social Sector issues in Puducherry on Friday, he said the Government was concerned over large-scale pilferage and siphoning of funds earmarked for rural development programmes
  • Ramesh said his Ministry was working on establishing an Independent Concurrent Evaluation Network with the participation of research institutes and NGOs at the Central and state level to ensure regular feedback on the implementation of welfare schemes.
  • He said the Government would give further thrust for improving sanitation and providing drinking water facilities in rural areas.
  • Dwelling in detail on the Maoist violence witnessed in different parts of the country, Ramesh said the Centre was working on a multi- pronged people-centric strategy to deal with the menace.
