• Trinidad and Tobago has supported for India's candidature for a permanent seat in an expanded United Nations Security Council (UNSC). This was disclosed in a joint statement issued after delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Trinidadian counterpart Mrs. Kamla Persad Bissessar in New Delhi.

  • The two leaders discussed a host of global issues, including terrorism, climate change and UN reforms. Intensifying energy collaboration also figured prominently in the discussions.

  • An Indian delegation led by Petroleum Minister S. Jaipal Reddy will visit Trinidad and Tobago later this year to identify the areas of cooperation. Rich in oil and gas resources, Trinidad and Tobago is the largest and most vibrant economy in the Caribbean.

  • India and Trinidad and Tobago also signed five agreements to enhanced economic and cultural ties. The air services pact is of vital importance apart from MoU in technical cooperation in the education and the health sector.
