• In Tiruchirapalli district of Tamil Nadu, the Differently Abled Welfare Department has done commendable job. 
  • They have identified seven categories of differently abled persons which include orthopedically handicap, low-vision people, totally blindness, deaf and dumb, mentally ill and leprosy cure. 
  • According to the percentage of disabilities and age, identity cards are issued to them and various schemes are implemented for them. 
  • Scholarships are given to differently abled students. Free bus pass are given to them. Self employment loan scheme are arranged to them through nationalised bank with the subsidy of Rs. 3,000. 
  • Various aids appliances like tricycle, wheel chair, motorised three-wheel, hearing aid, folding stick and Braille watch are supplied to the differently abled persons at free of cost. 
  • Those who are lost their upper and lower limb are provided with artificial limb at free of cost. Monthly pension schemes are implemented for the children who are mentally retarded more than 60% and disabled more than 75%. 
  • Those who are affected by muscle disorder are getting pension of Rs.1000/- per month. Apart from that for a better life, marriage assistance schemes are implemented for them.
