Maldives will soon propose a fresh name for occupying the post of Secretary General of SAARC. This was stated in an official statement issued in New Delhi on Saturday by the Ministry of External Affairs. The post fell vacant after incumbent Ms Fathimath Dhiyana, a Maldivian national, resigned last week.
SAARC practice provides each Member State an opportunity, on alphabetical rotation basis, to nominate a candidate of their choice as Secretary-General of SAARC for a three-year term.
