• The second Indo-Bhutan Friendship mela is being held at Subankhata in Baska district in Assam. Organised by Bodoland Territorial Council, week- long mela will conclude on Tuesday.
  • It is an initiative to boost -up the bilateral relation of both the countries.
  • Last year, the two neighbouring countries had decided to organize it on regular basis.
  • Government officials of both the countries took part in the opening ceremony.
  • Exhibition, ethnic foods and cultural shows are being organised as a part of the friendship mela.Around 150 stalls have been set-up representing various states.Stalls from Bhutan have also been put up at Subankhata.
  • The people on either side of the Indo-Bhutan border have been on close terms since ages and it is expected that mela would further strengthen the ties among the citizens of the two neighbouring countries.
  • It may be recalled that people from Samdrup Jongkhar and other areas, traded their farm products such as vegetables, dry chillies and oranges in Assam.
  • Now people from India and Bhutan are expecting that with the improved relation, border trade between both the countries would further increased.
