• At least 130 Indians were rescued on lifeboats after a luxury cruise liner ran aground off the Tuscan coast in Italy. At least five people died and 17 remained unaccounted for. None of them are Indian. Divers are trying to find more survivors. 
  • The luxury cruise liner was carrying more than 4,200 people, many of whom were having dinner at the restaurant when it hit a reef or rock near the Tuscan island.
  • External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna has asked Indian Ambassador to Italy to reach the accident site and to coordinate the rescue operations. Two Indian officials have already reached the site.
